Soil Planning For Land Management
Soil Planning provides an important input to environmental impact
assessments, planning applications and representations on structure
and local plan reviews. Published information on land quality is
not always reliable and Agricultural Land Classification surveys are
undertaken for the identification of best and most versatile land
to enhance prospects for successful planning applications. They also
provide a useful factual basis to land valuations and rent reviews.
Soil surveys are undertaken to inform decisions on farm management,
and diversification. For example, land capability classifications
are carried out for both agriculture and forestry to determine the suitability of land for crops and tree planting: and to provide estimates
of potential yields. Soil samples are taken for analysis to determine
basic nutrient levels and fertiliser requirements, and more specialist assessments for initial findings on potential contamination.
Care is taken to ensure that Soil Planning advice is consistent with
up-to-date national and local planning guidance on countryside matters.
Clients are also given practical advice on the scope for rural diversification,
and the implications of government policies for the protection
of landscape amenity and wildlife habitats. Chris Stapleton has considerable
experience of representing the interests of landowners in negotiations
with MAFF/FRCA, and other statutory consultees.
